OK, tell me that you honestly believe that one armed citizen in that movie theater could have stopped the shooter who had a semi-automatic assault rifle, a 12 gauge shotgun, and a handgun, and was completely covered in ballistic protective gear. Then tell me you think that multiple citizens with guns, who are highly unlikely to be expert marksmen, shooting in the dark at a man dressed entirely in black, bullet proof clothing, could have realistically stopped the gunman without causing more chaos and injuring more innocent people.
I understand that the Second Amendment gives the citizens of this the country the right to keep and bear arms, and I would never suggest taking away that right completely. But to allow a 24 year old to purchase a “civilian version” of a military grade weapon, and a 100 round drum of ammo for said gun, is simply irresponsible.
